START VENUE: Sandringham House Visitors Centre, PE35 6EH (Map 132 GR TF689285)

DIRECTIONS FROM KINGS LYNN: Follow signs for Hunstanton and A149, turn right signposted Sandringham.  Follow minor road and signs for car park.
CAR & COACH PARKING: At the start venue.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT:Nearest Train station Kings Lynn.  Local bus service from Kings Lynn or Hunstanton (see Kings Lynn Hunstanton Line) to Visitor Centre.
TERRAIN: Minor roads and woodland paths, not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.
GEOCACHING: There are two geocaches on or near the route
REFRESHMENTS: At the start and on route.

TOILETS:Public toilets at the start point and may be available in public houses on route.
DISTANCE:  11km
GRADE: Grade 1
ENTRY FEE:   1.00 per walker (Cheques payable to: Lincolnshire Vikings Walking Club)
AWARD: Due to manufacturing costs, a cloth badge/award is not available.  A free sticker is being produced which will be given to all walkers.

ROUTE DESCRIPTION

Leave the Visitors Centre in direction of the War Memorial, cross the road with care and turn left heading along the grass verge with Sandringham House wall on your right. Passing the impressive Norwich Gates on your right to the “T” junction.Turn right keeping the house wall on your right. 

At the 1st junction on your left, turn left signposted Sawmill. Continue along the road following cycle trail 1, passing Sandringham Sawmill on your right, then the school on your left.

Q1: What is the name of the school?

At the cross roads continue straight ahead to pass Manor Farm on your right. At the next cross roads turn left signposted Dersingham. 

Continue into Dersingham passing the Old Vicarage on your right to reach the main road. Cross the road with care and turn left signposted Sandringham.

Go past the pub and hotel on your right, then the bus stops to turn right into Manor Road. Go past the police station on your right and the Fish Bar / Kebab shop on your left. Cross the road and turn left down Heath Road.  Opposite the car park on your right, turn left on to Dersingham Common. 

Q2: What is the name of the last house on the left before you enter the common?

Head towards the No Tipping and Information signs and turn left on main path, continue ahead across the common keeping to the main path for 200m.

At patch of open space, bear right through trees staying on main path, at fork bear left staying on main path. 5m before bench with farm building in distance turn right to cross wooden sleeper bridge. Turn left after 3m to cross 2nd wooden sleeper bridge, path narrows through bushes to cross 3rd wooden sleeper bridge carry on to emerge on wider grass track, turn right. Staying on this main path to reach tarmac lane. Back track for 10m and turn left and head to gateway with canopy and yellow arrows.  Go down steps and through barrier and continue to follow yellow markers/arrows down more steps following yellow arrows along main path for approx. 1km.

At fork where yellow marker on tree indicates left, turn left, go up hill and steps to reach tarmac path, turn right following yellow arrows. (On your right along this path there is a viewing platform which on a clear day gives good views across the Wash, you may even be able to see the Boston Stump).

Continue on path, go through the gates and cross the road with caution and continue ahead on track following the yellow marker arrows. Just before reaching tarmac road to the front, turn left following yellow arrow indicators. At top of rise bear left, again following yellow arrows through the trees. At yellow arrow turn right on wide grass road.  

At road junction continue ahead on wide grass verge along side tarmac road to reach the War Memorial and finish. (Should you wish to proceed with a visit to the St Mary Magdalen Church or a visit into Sandringham House turn right).
